Impact

Through teacher development and training workshops, HEEAP is modernizing traditional Vietnamese theory-based engineering programs by introducing applied and hands-on instructional approaches. The HEEAP industry alliance consortia continues to grow and currently boasts partnerships with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Intel Corporation, Saigon Hi Tech Park, Siemens Corporation, Cadence Inc., and Danaher Corporation (Fluke, Tektronix, Keithley companies).

HEEAP 1.0: 2010-2013

In addition, more than 2,000 Vietnamese faculty have been trained at HEEAP’s in-country workshops. And the Vocational and University Leadership Innovation Institute (VULII) has trained more than 1,100 faculty leaders at dozens of events since 2012.

Since 2010, HEEAP has trained 247 lecturers from eight partner institutions who, upon returning to Vietnam, are teaching and graduating work-ready students who posses the applied and technical communication skills required by multinational corporations. 65 of the 247 trained lecturers were women.

HEEAP 2.0: 2013-2018

In 2014, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology computer science and computer engineering programs achieved ABET accreditation—making them the first in Vietnam to do so.

HEEAP 3.0: 2018 & BEYOND

HEEAP 3.0 is a large-scale transformation of the Vietnamese higher education system. This transformation will include all of the larger universities and vocational schools and help to build fully functional labs and testing facilities for application-based learning environments. HEEAP 2.0 schools will be designed as mentor institutions.

HEEAP 3.0 will focus on:

Leveraging public-private alliances to ensure that higher educational systems produce workforce-ready graduates with enhanced skills to innovate in Vietnam’s economy.

Stimulating the development of policies in higher education to drive broader innovation that support a more inclusive, sustainable growth that significantly reduce inequities in education access.

Continuing to strengthen the institutional capacity of higher education through faculty development programs that promote more effective teaching methodologies and practices to improve learning outcomes.
